Best Free and Open Source Software List

Hello Everybody. When it comes to selecting software for my need, I always become little nervous about the money it’s gonna cost me. That is why I have created this article which shows you the perfect replacements for the costly softwares. And most importantly, the softwares I am showing you are OPEN SOURCE and totally FREE. Hurray!!!

1) Browser

Well, you have lots of options when selecting a nice browser for your pc. But trust me, I am going to tell you the best of all. May be you are using it right now to view this blog. But anyway I am going to tell you 🙂

Mozilla Firefox

Yes, Mozilla Firefox is best browser when it comes to browsing faster with customized needs. There are more than 2,877,651,900 add-ons already downloaded by users. Its really Awesome. I have switched myself to Firefox from Chrome and satisfied.

2) Office Productivity Software

Everybody heard MS Office. Its awesome. But what if I tell you the perfect replacement for MS Office? Yes, I personally found it totally user friendly.

Apache OpenOffice

It supports every widely used operating system and it is perfect replacement of MS Office for creating Text Document, Presentation, Spreadsheet and more.

Almost everybody have this now in their computers and everybody know what it is. So not wasting time explaining feature. Its none other than

Photoshop is best, no doubt but the software I am telling you is the biggest rival of it. Not only me but many people are using it as a replacement of Photoshop.

We all have used WinZip and WinRar but currently this open source software is making them look small.

Most of the people say it less user friendly then windows, but this drawback is nothing as compared to its features. Personally, I don’t think any OS user unfriendly because when you use it, you get used to it.


While they can no longer deliver free CDs through the programme, it’s still easy to get Ubuntu. You can download Ubuntu for free from their official website.

12) Operating System – Handheld Devices

Last but not the least, in fact, Best. When it comes to selecting powerful, amazing and open source operating system for your handheld devices, we all know who is the winner. Most of the people are using it right now. So, without wasting time, the winner in this category is


Unlike other widely used handheld operating system, android comes with many varieties in devices. It gives you independence to configure your own device. You can even create your own apps for you own devices without anybody’s permission (of course, you need to have knowledge of creating apps). And, Android users now outnumber iPhone users.

13) IDE for Developers

IDE means Integrated Development Environment. In simple words, IDE is a software application for computer programmers for software development such as Microsoft Visual Studio.


This is totally cool IDE, mostly provided in JAVA, but the development language is independent. Using this, you can also create Android Apps.
